Small Pathe Horned Gramophone

Small Pathe Horned Gramophone

Categories: Gramophone

Here is a Pathe gramophone from about 1910. A small gramophone with an 8″ turntable, but capable of playing 10″ records. Early Pathe discs were “Phonocut” with the vibrating information in the bottom if the groove played with a reproducer that used a sapphire stylus instead of a needle. The sapphire was a small ball that bounced up and down in the groove of the record which became known as “Hill-and-dale” recording. The sapphire stylus lasted for a long time so did not need changing unlike standard steel gramophone needles.

This gramophone is in good condition with typically clunky Pathe controls. It is set up to play “Hill-and-dale” records only. Start/stop lever at the front and speed control on the right side with the winder.

The gramophone comes with an original sapphire stylus (very hard to find nowadays) and two Pathe discs.
