The “Polly Portable” Gramophone
Here is a rare gramophone, the “Polly Portable”.
This machine first appeared in the US in about 1915 but an almost identical version called the “Guiniphone” was later made in the UK by the Vickers Armstrong Company, famous for making armaments. The gramophone design was one of the few that attempted to do away with a conventional sound-box and used a large cardboard cone to act as a resonator. This rare example has its original cardboard cone with “Polly Oscillator ” logo but , at the time, differently designed cones could be bought that could be self constructed. A replica of an early design is included.
The gramophone is in fair condition in an all metal case and actually plays very well for such an unusual concept. Definitely a collector’s item

The gramophone comes with 100 needles and a small selection of 78s if required.
