One of the features that makes the HMV 102 the most sought after portable currently is the No.5A or 5B sound-box used. Unfortunately both of these sound-boxes were fitted with back plates made of “Pot-metal” and over time the alloy used begins to swell making the back-plates difficult to remove and eventually forcing the outer ring to split especially where the bolt holes are. As a result there is a real shortage of sound 5A and 5B sound-boxes and collectors are always looking for replacements.

The HMV 102 gramophone shown is in very good playing condition but is fitted with a replacement sound-box that
