Berliner “Trademark” Gramophone

Berliner “Trademark” Gramophone

Categories: Gramophone

I have been buying, selling and repairing gramophones for over thirty years and am all too aware of ways in which these machines may have been modified and updated over maybe 100 years of use. In addition the market is flooded with fake machines that are available in all shapes and sizes. The gramophone illustrated here is in my opinion a genuine “Trademark” model from the end of the 19th century. It has a Berliner label on one side which reads “Berliner Gramophone National; Gramophone Company 874 Broadway New York City” on the front (rather unexpectedly!) is the “Nipper” logo. which may have ben applied as a water transfer at a later date. However the logo may have been used on gramophones as early as 1899.The correct sound-box is a “Clark-Johnson”.
