This is a nice example of the Edison "Standard" phonograph, Model A from about 1903. The oak case has the earlier "Banner" logo, there is an end-gate to support the mandrel and a speed regulator that is on the top of the casing in front of the gear train. the phonograph plays two minute cylinders only using a Model C reproducer.
This machine is fitted with a shaving device (See inset picture), although this feature was omitted on models offered after 1904 because it was considered that the motor was not strong enough to shave efficiently.
The horn is a replica one, but is surprisingly light so the carrier tracks across very well.
