"HMV "Hornless" Model No.1A.

hmv 1A.

This is an early Gramophone Company (HMV) "Hornless" gramophone, the Model 1A from about 1914. It has a solid oak case, single spring motor, 10" turntable, "Exhibition" sound-box and internal horn.

The Gramophone Company introduced these as simple, but efficient machines that were neater in design than the previous external horned gramophones that were taking up too much room. The design never proved very popular as customers felt that they should have some sort of lid.

Two small doors at the front allow for some degree of volume control and the "Nipper" logo appears on the left side of the case. The gramophone plays well and is in nice original condition.
