"HMV Sound-boxes.

HMV sound-boxes. HMV sound-boxes.

HMV No.5A and 5B sound-boxes were used on HMV gramophones from the 1930s and were a revolution in sound-box technology. They can be found on the following models: The HMV 102 portables, 104, 130  and 150 table models, and the 145, 157, 163, 193, 194, 202 and 203 cabinet machines. (I may have left some out!)

In the last year or so these sought after sound boxes have been making inflated prices on e-Bay so I am now offering refurbished 5A and 5B boxes at sensible prices.

There must have been a good deal of interchange between HMV and Columbia when they amalgamated to become EMI in about 1931. As a result a few of these sound-boxes have backs marked "Columbia" rather than "His Master's Voice". They are otherwise identical to the 5A or 5B boxes and with similar diaphragms.

I HAVE ONLY A FEW OF THESE NOW LEFT.

I do have a few No.4 sound-boxes available. These were used in gramophones produced by HMV in the 1920s such as the 101, 103, 109. 156 and several others
