Early HMV Model 101. Front Winding.

101.

This is a nice early HMV Model 101 portable gramophone from about 1925. It was one of the first models made as a 101 and has the motor orientated so that it is wound from the front with a longer reach winding handle.

Later HMV 101s were wound from the right hand side and the winder was applied at an angle to make winding easier on the knuckles. This is a much rarer gramophone with the winder located around the back of the turntable and with two spring-lidded needle cups fitted to the base of the lid. Otherwise the machine is similar to the more frequently met later models.

The overall condition is quite good and the machine plays well with the No.4 sound-box.

The HMV 101 is a reliable and classic gramophone and this early model would make an interesting addition to a collection.
